Jessica Alba captured the attention of every man (and let’s admit it, every woman) with her underwater work in Columbia Pictures’ Into the Blue.
But the Latina beauty is much more than television & film eye candy. She is mother, a wife, and an entrepreneur using her celebrity and status to provide the public with accessible, eco-friendly options to everyday living.
After the birth of her first daughter, Honor, Alba’s mama instincts kicked in; she wanted to provide the safest, least toxic environment for her little one, but she found it more difficult than expected. And like every great invention and innovation, The Honest Company was created out of necessity.
Just over a year ago she blogged on Huffington Post about her inspiration, “Wouldn’t it be great if there was one company I could get all my daily essentials from — from diapers to cleaning to bath time — and I could trust that they would be safe, eco-friendly, affordable, and effective, as well as designed beautifully and delivered to my doorstep?” (I know I’m a dreamer.) What a relief it would be for me, and many parents, to have this kind of resource! I wanted and desperately needed this kind of company — so I decided to create it.”
Today she’s taken her brainchild a step furthur with the publication of her new book The Honest Life ($22.99).
There’s a common misconception: following a healthy, balanced lifestyle is impossible without investing a ton of time into it, or spending a lot of money—Alba hopes her book will debunk the myth. “I always thought that being healthy or green or eco or whatever was an extreme lifestyle. I’m not a vegan, I don’t live off the grid, I don’t wear hemp every day. I don’t have time,” Alba told E! News at the book signing.
Clearly she’s doing something right. Maybe a flip through the book wouldn’t be such a bad idea.
