The “Modern Family” star, will star in and executive produces the limited series “Griselda,” helmed by “Narcos” showrunner Eric Newman under his overall deal with the streaming platform.
The series “Griselda” is “inspired by the savvy and ambitious Colombian businesswoman, Griselda Blanco, who created one of the most profitable cartels in history. A devoted mother, Blanco’s lethal blend of charm and unsuspected savagery helped her expertly navigate between family and business leading her to become widely known as the ‘Godmother.’”

Starring Vergara as Griselda, the project has been in development for eight years at Latin World Entertainment. Fellow Colombian native Andrés Baiz is set to direct all six episodes of the limited drama, while also serving as an executive producer alongside co-showrunners and writers Ingrid Escajeda and Doug Miro.
Reggaeton singer Karol G has been casted in her first acting role to play Carla, one of Griselda’s “mules.” In the series, Carla is responsible for transporting drugs from Colombia to the United States.
“It’s a great role because there’s real character development,” the Colombian singer told Billboard. “[Carla] is a character that evolves. She sees what she does as a job, but also as a way to maintain her family, and she’s tough!
To prep for her first acting role, Karol G has spent months receiving lessons in acting and body movement. As a result, the classes helped her improve her other artistic qualities. “It’s like another universe that I hadn’t experienced. I’m in my acting classes, body expression classes and they have enriched me not only for the series, but for what I do constantly. It is a world where everything feeds everything”, said Karol.
She continued, “With my teacher, we get into different situations and he helps me get in character. When you’re not an actor, your goal is to do things well so they’re credible. But in acting, you really get inside a character and you forget about what people want.”
The six part series has no official release date, but will be released sometime in late 2022 or 2023, stay tuned for more updates on Netflix’s Griselda.
