Bachata superstar Romeo Santos will be joining the extensive list of musicians turned actors in ABC’s developing sitcom, where he will play a young Dominican man struggling to find the balance between success in the US and maintaining his traditional cultural customs.
The show, originally pitched to the network by Hollywood’s “it” couple Jada and Will Smith, was sold to the two stars. The duo will serve as executive producers in the project, while Chris Pappas and Mike Bernier are to write the show.
Santos, who is largely known among the Latino population, is slowly but surely expanding his stardom to the mainstream US entertainment industry. He recently collaborated with R&B superstar Usher for his second single, “Promise”. If successful, Santos’ participation in the sitcom will further expand his recognition among the English-speaking US population.
The show will add to the extensive lists of projects the singer has taken on after his disbanding from Aventura, the bachata group that brought him to fame. The band is said to be taking a 2 year hiatus as they explore their own individual talents.
The sitcom remains unnamed and has no set release date.
