Disney channel superstars Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens shove their mouse ears (and innocence) to the back of the closets with Spring Breakers.
The media surrounding the indie film had been at full force; I’m guessing the publicity bill for the flick was parallel with the cost of the actual shooting budget–or the shooting budget was way less. Either way, the investment in marketing paid off. The film opened up to a $5 million dollar welcomewagon, surpassing Tina Fey’s Admission and Lindsay Lohen’s InAPPropriate Comedy.
Aside from cool
, eye-catching marketing (neon colors and bikini clad actresses) Gomez and Hudgens rotated late-night couches and press events in support of the film (I heard Hudgens tell both Chelsea Handler and Jay Leno she was not snorting real cocaine during the filming—it was vitamin B!).
Springbreakers is the newest feature film project from Kids filmmaker, Harmony Korine, and may have proved he’s more than a one-trick, indie success—he knows how to bring big money to the box office.
Don’t let the cool poster and fun-evoking title foul you, the film is violent, gritty, psychedelic, and filled with a bunch of half-naked hot girls…and James Franco sports corn-rolls! How could you not be, in the very least, a little curious to check it out?!?!
