The DREAM Project (Dominican Republic Education and Mentoring Project) is proud to announce its 5th Annual NYC Benefit: Sueños 2016, bridging NYC with more than 7,000 underserved Dominican youth. Sueños has become one of the most important events within the Hispanic community, breaking the cycle of poverty in more than 27 communities throughout the Dominican Republic through innovative education models.
The celebration is set to take place at the exclusive 40/40 Club in Manhattan on November 10 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
This year, The DREAM Project will honor Dascha Polanco, actress and star of the Netflix series ‘Orange is the New Black,’ as DREAMer of the Year. Polanco will be recognized for her philanthropic work, including a new Theatre and Arts Program she is developing for youth in the Dominican Republic in collaboration with DREAM.
“No matter where you’re from or where you are, I believe every child is deserving of a quality education,” said Dascha Polanco. “DREAM not only understands this, they work tirelessly to give our Hispanic youth an opportunity to dream of a bright future. I am proud to be part of this great work.”
Sueños 2016 will bring together New York’s most prominent philanthropists, celebrities and invited guests, hosted by Univison’s Katiria Soto, including star of the series Empire and Head Start Literacy Ambassador Taye Diggs, Roc Nation Latino Artists Karen Rodriguez and Mr. Paradise, UFC’s Alex Garcia, Alejandro Martínez and Emeli Reynoso, Mr. and Miss Dominican Republic U.S.TM, as well as several cast members from the hit series ‘Orange is the New Black,’ among others.

In addition, DREAM will honor their Corporate DREAMer of the Year, JetBlue Airways and DREAM Educator of the Year, author Ana Galan. JetBlue will be recognized for their work alongside DREAM since 2008 and their acclaimed Soar with Reading Program. Galan will be honored for her work in children’s literacy most recently with her book “Un Leon en Cabarete” in partnership with The DREAM Project and more than 20 youth participating in the Young Stars Program.
All proceeds from the event will go towards DREAM’s early childhood development, at-risk youth and workforce development programs. As official sponsors of this year’s event, JetBlue Fast Enterprises UBS The 40/40 Club and Brugal are placing a premium on this critical need.
