What do you get when you see more than one Toyota Prius? Well, “Prii.” That’s right, since today via Twitter Prius just received the support of 1 million tweeters to proclaim that Prii is the official plural of Prius! The plural crowning of the Toyota car hasn’t been sanctioned by the Oxford English Dictionary, but since Toyota announced what the plural name of the Prius is it has become the top trend on Twitter.
The announcement came Monday after Toyota choose the derivative of the plural form of Prius after a six-week voting campaign via the online community started on January 10th at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Other choice beside Prii were “Priuses,” “Prium” and “Prien,” and out of a total of 1.8 million votes, Prii was crowned the winner with taking a total of 25% of the votes. Toyota unveiled the winning world this Tuesday at the Chicago Auto Show and in the video below. Not everyday a new word can become official via a website where you’re only allowed to use 140 characters, way to go you Tweeters!
