A few weeks back the buzz on the web was that Dancing with the Stars pro, Cheryl Burke, was hoping to get a little Victor Cruz salsa action on the show this year. He declined, it didn’t happen. Nonetheless, they still got their Victor!
Mexican-American lightweight boxing champ, Victor Ortiz, will be in America’s living rooms starting March 18th when Dancing With the Stars kicks off it’s 16th season. Can you believe it?! 16 seasons already!
The Latino lightweight, nicknamed Vicious for his boxing style, will have to soften up for this new gig.You can’t deny it’s an extreme change of pace for him. It’s going to be interesting (and entertaining) to see how he does. I can’t imagine his dancing partner, Lindsay Arnold (Top 8 Latin Ballroom dancer last year, and So You Think You Can Dance alum) would appreciate a rough and tough comrade. But I have all my faith in Ortiz. If he’s as graceful on the dance floor as he is in the ring, it’s going to be alright.
DWTS has done nothing but solidify their participants celebrity status, and Ortiz will be no exception. For all those non-boxing fans out there, you’re about to meet another (literally) kick-ass Latino!
Who is his competition you ask? Let me say, it’s an impression lineup.
A pair of Olympic Gold Medalists: Aly Raismand & Dorothy Hamill
A pair of Country Singers: Wynonna Judd & Kellie Pickler
A pair of comedians: Andy Dick & D.L. Hughley
A pair of thespians: Ingo Rademacher & Zendaya Coleman
And a couple of randoms: Superbowl champ Jacoby Jones & Real Housewife Lisa Vanderpump
This is exciting, Victor is about to a join the impressive company of two DWTS hottie alumni, Mario Lopez, and William Levy..It’s going to be another run ride!
