Estibaliz Chavez is only 19 years old and already has a dream a world away- to attend Kate Middelton and Prince William’s royal wedding. The Mexican teenager is literally starving herself in hopes the Brits will notice her efforts and invite her to the wedding of the century. Some might say she’s a few beans short of a burrito, but Chavez is truly passionate about the monarch. “I have been a fan of the royal family since I was a child. My mom, who died after she gave birth to me, admired Lady Di [nickname for the late Princess Diana] because she was kind and willing to help people”, Chavez informed Metro News. She stressed she isn’t a Prince William stalker, but respect for Princess Diana. Chavez is in high school, residing in Atizapan, northeast of Mexico City. She is learning English and enjoys making ceramic and sculpturing and hopes to sell her figures of the royal family to fund her travel expenses to the wedding. She works at a stationary store, making 500 pesos (41 U.S. dollars) weekly. Chavez has been camping outside the British Embassy in Mexico City. She has only been nourishing her body with water, and hasn’t eaten in 13 days. The last meal she had was “fried chicken and cheesecake”. She said she’s lost 16 pounds thus far during her hunger strike. To keep occupied, Chavez has read “’The Prince’ by Niccolo Machiavelli the entire collection of Harry Potter and Edgar Allen Poe’s stories.” If she does not receive an invitation, Chavez will be sad, but will move on and continue her studies. Starving herself is her way of showing the enormous sacrifice Chavez is making. This is her way of demonstrating to everyone that dreams can happen, and there is hope. She believes “when someone has a dream and makes it public, it can become a reality.” She didn’t quite clear up the necessity of endangering her health, as opposed to, like, making a giant shrine of Kate and William and Diana, but one thing is certain, she’s a teen with an agenda.
