Spring is here, and that means finding new musicians to fall utterly, completely and madly in love with. Plug in your headphones, crack open a bottle of whatever you’re sipping on and allow us to help you get your dance party started. Here are 6 musicians bringing an amazing quality to today’s music landscape.
CLUBZ
Yes. Just yes. Hailing from Monterrey, Mexico, CLUBZ is everything you want to hear while driving to the beach, top down and music blaring.The dance-pop duo consists of longtime friends Coco Santos and Orlando Fernandez, and fuses uh-maaazing guitar riffs into their soft EDM jams. Dive right in, and listen to their entire Epocas EP. You will not be disappointed.
RED BRO
It really is the year of the DJ. If anyone tells you otherwise, they have yet to stumble across musicians like Sango, esta, Shlomo, or our next highlight, Red Bro. At only 20 years old, this kid has a bright future-mixing influential sounds to create his own musical aesthetic. Checkout the “Chet Faker – I’m Into You Remix,” as well as his track “LUV.”
JESSICA HERNÁNDEZ AND THE DELTAS
Psych Surf never gets old, especially when the band is led by someone as talented and charming as the half-Cuban, half-Mexican Jessica Hernandez. With a voice like honey and a well-formulated band behind her, she really brings a soulful. Amy Winehouse-esque vibe to the forefront. Check out “Sorry I Stole Your Man” and “Cry Cry Cry” to satiate your curiosity.
DESTINY FRASQUERI
Puerto Rican independent artist Destiny Frasqueri sounds like a youthful Sade, and that is surely something to swoon over. With head-bobbing beats behind her, please do check out her solo song “Orange Blossom” and her track with her band Princess Nokia titled “Dragons.”
BOMBA ESTÉREO
Bomba Estereo is such a whirlwind of energy. Their track “Fiesta” is on another level of vitality, and only given an extra injection in the song’s remix with a really wonderful and unexpected musical cameo by Will Smith! Also peep “Somos dos” for some cool, sexy tropical vibes.
HELLO SEAHORSE!
If you’re into bands like The Black Keys, you will love the female-led vibes of Hello Seahorse!. The band met in Mexico City several years ago,and has been making pure magic ever since. Tune into their songs “No es que no te quiera,” “Animal,” “Nada extraordinario” and “Me he convertido” to experience the bliss.
