Goal setting is a must in life. Goals serve as a guide and help us navigate our lives in the right direction. They keep us motivated as we accomplish the things we set out to do. When you set a goal, you make a commitment to yourself. This commitment demonstrates that you want to achieve certain things in your life. Goals enhance your potential for success.
When setting a goal, you will need the following: Determination and a journal. These two things will help you on your journey. Your determination comes from within you. The journal will make your goal setting concrete. You can begin brainstorming and then you can continue to detail, in your journal, the type and length that your goal requires.
Some goals fall into varying periods. For example:
- Short term goal – a few hours or a day
- Midterm goal – a few days or a few weeks
- Long term goal – months or years
I really enjoy making music and from a few demos and some goal setting, my bilingual debut album “Morena” was born. If i didnt’ break down my goals into different time periods, i don’t think i would have completed my album.
It felt good to me that i had accomplished something that was so important to me. From this accomplishment, i felt a sense of confidence. As i progressed from one song completion to the other, i felt as if i could take on new projects like setting up my music video. And, i did!
When you assess your life and figure out the things you want to do in life – that’s half the battle. Goals are a representation of our inner worlds. To push ourselves to complete our goals is a manifestation of our dreams. They keep us growing. And who doesn’t love to grow.
When you stop growing, you stop living.
So break out the pad and start brainstorming about all of the things you want to accomplish. Place them in categories like spiritual, academic, community, financial, family, career, etc. Then, give them a time frame like i mentioned above. You can do it!
You are your own roadmap. Start driving!
