LARA AND SHIELDS PARTING SHOTS
It is now only a few hours away and Golden Boy Promotions is excited to present “Canelo Alvarez vs Erislandy Lara” fight on Showtime PPV at the Hollywood Theatre at the MGM Grand. The main event will be twelve rounds with no title on the line. But it has star power as Canelo (43-1-1 31 KO’s), in his second fight since his first defeat to Floyd Mayweather.
Lara’s manager, Ronnie Shields sounds as confident as his fighter.”Everything is going great here in camp.” Shields explained. “Lara is in great condition. Like always he is doing everything that we’ve asked of him.” Lara agrees “There’s not much to talk about.” Lara added. “I’m in great shape. And you’ll see against Canelo Saturday.”
The question of common opponents was introduced into the phone conference and Lara discounted it. Lara and Canelo share Trout and Angulo as fighters that both these men fought. “They have nothing to do with each other, basically all styles are different.” Lara’s opinion of Canelo was similar. “The most important thing is style.”
But with Shields and Lara getting their last shots in the topic of styles was put on the table. “Yes, without a doubt. Also, I think think that Lara is just a better fighter, period, than Canelo.” Lara agreed. “Canelo is one of these guys that is in front of you.” Lara added. This is a true crossroads fight especially for Lara, who since leaving Cuba has looked for the big moment. ”
Championships come and go but these types of fights will leave a history.”
The undercard will include a defense by the interim WBA 140 pound champion, Johan Perez who faces Mauricio Herrera. Abner Mares returns from his shock loss to fight a ten rounder against Jonathan Oquendo in the co main event. Juan Manuel Lopez faces Francisco Vargas for the WBO International 130 pound title.
