The Spanish Palace has described a joke played on King Juan Carlos by a presenter of Catalunya Radio as ‘very serious’. The presenter pretended to be ‘the secretary to Señor Mas from Cataluña’. As the new President of the Catalan region is Artur Mas, he found himself put forward by the Casa Real switchboard directly to the King, when he then revealed he called from Catalunya Radio and that the show’s producer was a Señor Mas, which sometimes leads to confusion.
Catalunya Radio has not broadcast the resulting conversation, saying wind up calls are against its style book, but the recording has been placed on You Tube. During it the presenter tries to get the monarch to record a plug for his programme, ‘Tot es molt confús’ (Everything is very confused).
It’s understood the radio station is trying to stop the use of the audio and that You Tube has removed it on request.
El Mundo has the audio on its website here.
