In a recent interview by GQ magazine Mexico, Colombian reggaetón and pop artist Karol G told the person interviewing her about the dissatisfaction she had with the cover, saying that the image did not look like her. Something that also caught the attention of this interview was Karol G’s comments about the late drug kingpin Pablo Escobar.
Karol G grew up in the city of Medellín, she revealed that before she was born, her family met Escobar, the feared leader of the Medellín Cartel.
The interpreter of “TQG” said that the drug trafficker “saved” her family from an economic crisis when her mother worked as a waitress in a restaurant where Escobar went to eat and he left her a generous tip, enough to jump-start them to better financial circumstances.
At that time Escobar was not known as “the Patron of evil” and he still did not have the fame and fortune that he did later. In those days, Escobar was known as a wealthy man who helped people in need.
Karol G has spoken about the damage that drug trafficking has caused to her country. For some my country has a stereotype that the only thing we have there is trafficking and drugs.
And no, that time has passed, you still see that people talk to you about Pablo Escobar, because people see him as a character appearing in movies and TV series, but in my country, this was an era that caused a lot of damage,” said the global star.
Karol G’s goal is to continue putting the name of Colombia on a global level. “To be able to do my bit and say that I am part of the group of artists who can do something for my country is incredible,” She said.
