Auctioning is one a public sale where people can make a lot of money off of something that is actually worth some kind of value. Anything from an original piece of memorabilia from the Titanic to original artwork done by the artist, auction attendees get really excited about this especially if they are collectors.
Recently in the news, Mayor Bill de Blasio was scrutinized for eating a pizza with a fork instead of his hands like most everybody does and is the norm for eating pizza. While he has his reasons for eating with a fork, the fork he ate off was auctioned off to benefit the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
The Stephen Siller Tunnel To Towers Foundation was named for an FDNY fighter who ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel on the morning of September 11th. According to other news sources, Chairman Frank Siller said that money raised through the auction will go towards Sandy relief and for building homes for wounded soldiers.
The auction remained open for a few weeks and in the end, it was auctioned off for $2,500.
Other celebrities have also auctioned off things that may be considered out of the ordinary. Take Ricky Martin for example and how he auctioned off an outfit from the movie “Evita”.
Despite de Blasio being criticized for how he eats his pizza, the foundation raised a lot of money and that is what is most important.
