Mi gente of Latin Trends! When the going gets tough, some throw in the towel…and the others begin to think outside the box with the goal to bring passions into reality! Such are the core qualities of a true a social entrepreneur.
The youngsters that listen to our show, “Kids Pocket Change,” are inquisitive and brilliant in my opinion. One asked, “What is a social enterprise?”
In a nutshell – and why I am a fan of such a model – a social enterprise is driven by a mission driven by targets that include social or environmental and financial purpose. The business model utilizes market-based strategies and goes beyond the dependence of grants and charities to propel the social mission forward. (Mind you, some non-profits adopt these models as well).
With the financial targets reached, the social or environmental goals can be furthered. The result: a small step forward to equality and opportunity for so many more.
These visionaries, called social-entrepreneurs, are out to create a shift, to break patterns, to be radical and stand for a new structure that requires more than a charitable donation. More information is available at The Social Enterprise Alliance(SEA).
