Consider it the Justice League of the Research and Development which gathered this past Thursday and one of the attendees was President Barack Obama. Not joined by Political figurehead, International Dignitaries, the President was joined by none other than some of the Technological Elites. This past Thursday at the home of venture capitalist and Economic Recovery Advisory Board member, John Doerr held a dinner where the likes of Apple’s Steve Jobs, Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, Google’s Eric Schmidt, Yahoo’s Carol Bartz, Twitter’s Dick Costolo, and many other met the President and sat down to dinner just outside of San Francisco to discuss how to improve America’s economy.
Before the techie-elites, Obama discusses his agenda for making the United States of America competitive with other countries by coming up with new ways that the government and private sectors can work together in order to lift the country’s rocky economy. According to White House Press Secretary, Jay Carney, the meeting did not get into specific details but “The President specifically discussed his proposals to invest in research and development and expand incentives for companies to grow and hire.”
The meeting of technological minds just comes after Obama released his new budget that included billions of dollars to be spent on Research and Development. Within the same budget, President Obama secured a measure which would allow businesses to fully expense business investing for 2011. The meeting comes after Obama announced his renewed effort to work closely with the private sector in order to come up with ways to improve the economy. The dinner meeting also went into discussion on how American children could become more encouraged to study math, science, and engineering three key sectors of education that has fallen in numbers due to a lack of interest inspiring children to go into such fields.
The dinner was Obama’s first foray with technology giants, since on Friday Obama was in the company of more technological elites when he headed to Oregon where he announced that Intel’s CEO Paul Otellini will join the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness. Wouldn’t Justice League of Research and Development be cooler…probably copyrighted and a mouthful to constantly say. Anyway, looks like the future in America could become more digitalized and let’s hope it all works out.
