Time and time again we come across artists that take record sales to a whole ‘nother level. Fans and executives assume that record companies seek to manipulate sales numbers with distribution of their albums. In the case of this sexy cantante, Pablo Alboran, the charts do not lie.
During the second consecutive week of the release of Pablo Alboran’s new album ‘Terral’, it was recognized as a humongous hit. Breaking records across the country it making the best sellers list and certified as a Double Platinum CD with more than 80,000 copies sold. During the same time frame, the hot British boy band, One Direction released their new album entitled ‘Four’. Although ‘Four’, achieved the highest positions in the charts in the United States and United Kingdom, their strategies of marketing do not cater to the Latinos, capping their revenue intakes.
My niece and nephew are loyal fans of this British boy band, and I for the most part understand why. They are cute guys, commercial and are the N’Sync or NKOTB of this generation. But will this young generation be captivated by an artist like Pablo Alboran? Going platinum is no easy task whether you are one hit wonder or an icon Grammy winning artist, it takes time and dedication. And the huge monetary investment that both markets because of the economical changes are hesitant to cough up. Statistics play a huge part in album purchases. This generation of One Direction lovers illegally download tracks, print images, and sleep outside over night for the chance to purchase a ticket. Our generation wouldn’t do that for Pablo, Ricky or Enrique. But we would if Michael Jackson was with us? What does that say about our double standards? Pablo Alboran has successfully made platinum because of the magnitude of his talent and his amazing persona. If these 1D fans relate that much to this boy band to sacrifice security and piracy why would our generation not for an artist as high caliber as Pablo, Ricky or Enrique?
So who are you a fan of? Are you a ‘Pablo Alboran’ Adorer or a ‘One Direction’ Dreamer?
