A high point of Eugenio María de Hostos Community College’s 2010 study abroad program in collaboration with Universidad Autónoma de Santo Domingo (UASD), which took place from June 29th through July 15th, was the National Teachers Day Ceremony Celebration held at the National Palace of the Dominican Republic on June 30th.
At this event, the Honorable Leonel Fernández Reyna, and the Honorable Melanio Paredes Pinales, Minister of Education, recognized Dominican teachers who have excelled professionally in the United States. Special awards were presented to Hostos alumnus Juan Villar, Principal of the Gregorio Luperón High School for Math and Science (21 years of service); Prof. Humberto Antonio Grullón, a teacher with 28 years of service from the High School for Contemporary Arts in the Bronx, and to Yamil Baez, a teacher in Rhode Island (19 years of service).
