Get to know Frankie a little…
Latin music superstar Frankie Negrón was named “the genre’s next definitive voice” by All Music Guide. Since 1997, his distinct blend of traditional salsa with progressive influences such as pop, rock, gospel, R&B, hip-hop, and reggaetón has garnered numerous plaudits, including two Premio Lo Nuestro Awards for “Song of the Year” and multiple Grammy and Billboard award nominations, Overall, Negrón has had several number one singles, four gold and platinum albums and nine Billboard Top 40 Hot Latin Tracks. His last album, 2009’s Independence Day (Airgo Music), also earned enthusiastic reviews from The New York Times’ Jon Pareles.
Independance Day delivered the epic single “Adicto A TuPiel”, a fan favorite and an industry smash. The single reached #3 on the Billboard Tropical charts. Negrón then released his first English single, “Torn”, on FOX’s Good Day New York. The album was Frankie’s first independent release, and Airgo Music negotiated groundbreaking direct distribution deals for it with Walmart and Best Buy.
A tireless entertainer, Negrón has spent the last few years performing for fans all over the world but longed to return to the studio. “I have a great time on stage and I enjoy bringing my music to the masses but I missed the creative part of the music,” reflected Negrón.
He has since teamed up with songwriter Ray Contreras and producer Jimmy Greco to create the new singles “TeSigo Amando” and “Ay, Ay, Ay”. Born and raised in Newark, New Jersey and of Puerto Rican descent, Negrón’s new music is influenced by the sounds of R&B, Dance and other forms of Latin music, just as much as Salsa. His two new releases draw from those genres and Negron is eager to share the music with his fans.
“Many of my fans don’t even know I speak English, that I am a Jersey guy born and bred. This new music will have a lot of the elements that I grew up with. Still very Latino, still en espanol with various tropical elements but I would call it a mash-up really–not one genre or the other,” he added. Despite the many commitments of his professional life, Frankie Negrón always makes time to give back to his community. He is an advocate for the American Diabetes Association and the American Red Cross and uses his passion for health to create awareness in the Latino community. “Diabetes prevention is an important issue in my family and in the Latino community. We also need to educate people about blood donation because a majority of Latinos have O positive blood type, making us universal donors,” Negrón explains.
Frankie is active in both organizations; attending and participating in events and putting on special performances. He is also an advocate for Colombianitos, a organization based in Colombia that improves the quality of life of children through sports, recreation, education and health. “Giving back is vital to me. I am blessed to have career where I share my voice, but that voice can extends beyond my music. I get to be a voice for my community,” he says.
