Michelle Cruz, founder and owner of East Harlem Café, opened up her shop to bring together her community of El Barrio in the simplest way ever – over a cup of coffee. But since its opening in 2008, she’s expanded her menu by adding salads, sandwiches, and other flavors of coffee, tea, and desserts. Not only does this little spot on Lexington Ave & 104th St. some coffee treats, almost every night you’ll find either an open-mic-night, jazz band performing, or even a cooking class. Now, she is looking to expand her menu and change it with healthier choices, but she can’t do it all by herself. East Harlem Café has a goal of $10,000 to be fundraised in just 30 days. Amazingly, Cruz is half way there! Residents of El Barrio have been very supportive of Cruz, since she’s so supportive of El Barrio. Below is a video of the Café’s brief history (or watch here). To make a donation, you can either stop by the shop – 1651 Lexington Ave, at 104th St, or by clicking here. Enjoy!
