Amongst all the protestors in ‘Occupy Wall Street’, Latinos are a large number of them – either living in New York or are visiting from Latin America, such as a few Chileans who are a part of the free education protests there. Others include Emilio Montilla, a Dominican who now sleeps in a tent that serves as the headquarters of ‘Occupy Wall Street en Español’. He joined in on the movement after seeing many other Latinos joining. Him and other work directly with ‘Democracy Now’, which translate the small newspaper “The Occupied Wall Street Journal” in Spanish.
Elisa Soto, another protestor, states that Hispanics are very intelligent, with “corazones de verdad”. Assemblyman Jose Rivera has also joined in with the Latino protestors. He says that Latinos have a lot of reasons to support the movement.
