It was an odd sight. The New York Giants of the NFL had a mini-camp practice yesterday. We saw Eli Manning at his familiar quarterback position. but who was that wide receiver wearing number 80?
Yes, it was Victor Cruz, former Super Bowl Champion in 2011, who has spent the last few years fighting the injury bug that has taken hold of his career which started off magnificently.
“Who’s the new guy?”
was heard from the sidelines as Cruz took a couple snaps this session.
The 29-year old had to laugh. It was a small yet crucial step in a comeback that has seen him doing individual drills for the most part, minus defenders or just sprinting. But Cruz is appreciative for the opportunities still before him while laughing off the good-natured taunts.
“They always kill me with that stuff, but it’s always fun being out there with the team,”
Cruz laughed.
Once again time will tell if Cruz can join the other Giant wideout, Odell Beckham Jr., who has held the spot Cruz once did as the top star receiver on the team. We can only dream about a Beckham-Cruz duel attack in 2016.
