Last week, I was at the gym and overheard a conversation between two men after their workout. To paraphrase, the words shared were, “Dude, its not just you, don’t feel alone man, everyone at every level, we’re all affected, there is no such thing as middle class any more.”
They were discussing the economy, employment, and the feeling of “being stuck.”
There is much that can be discussed from these simple words. In fact we have books, audio tapes, videos, and interactive workshops that examine your behavioral patterns to show how you as an individual relate to money. Not only do these materials exist, but they top the New York Times bestseller lists.
The concerns are real, but what is the real answer? I believe the answer is a holistic blend. First, it is evident that the economic choices we make as individuals affect the whole. At every economic level, we are all in it together. Second, regardless of individual income earn, has everyone taken the responsibility to become savvy money managers? Money management is not just for the wealthy, it is for all of us. Third, just for today, what small gesture can you make to feel empowered financially? It might be simply feeling grateful for where you are, right now!
Just for today, focus on the simple. That just might be the space and pause needed to move you forward to the next economic step.
