According to the NCLR, Hispanic-Americans greatly use the Social Security benefits. It is what keeps most of the senior citizen population out of poverty. Unlike Caucasians and African-Americans, this may very well be the only source of money a Latino receives after retirement. Hispanics’ chances of even receiving Social Security are low because they are usually “under paid, wrongly classified as independent contractors or are paid in cash, impacting their earnings and Social Security tax payment records.” Unfortunately because they are Hispanic, people aren’t given as many opportunities and ability to save up for a nest egg. Across the country, Hispanics are rising up and demanding they get their money. The immigrants are coming in, and having children in the States, making them American citizens. Politicians look to them for votes and support. The Hispanic general population is growing as will the Hispanic population in the workforce. This will contribute to the Social Security Fund that will help all workers. So the next time you decide to snub a Latino for assuming they don’t having their paperwork in order, remember: he or she signs your paychecks when you’re old and wrinkly.
