Antonio Banderas is the latest name to be added to the sequel “The Expendables 3.” Banderas’ character has yet to be announced but Mel Gibson has also been added to the veteran ensemble playing the “bad guy.”
Harrison Ford was recruited to replace Bruce Willis after his high-salary demands. Willis was dropped after demanding he get paid $1 million for four days of shooting in Bulgaria.
During Sylvestor Stallone’s announcement about Banderas joining the cast of the $90 million film, Stallone raved about the Latin superstar, calling him “a consummate actor and a gentleman.”
“The Expendables 3” will be directed by Patrick Hughes and co-written by Stallone. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Mickey Rourke, Wesley Snipes and Jackie Chan are all set to appear. The blockbuster franchise has earned a combined amount of $586m at the worldwide box-office for the first two films.
Banderas will appear in upcoming films “Machete Kills,” “The 33,” and “Knight of Cups.”
The third installment of the “The Expendables” is set for release in August 2014.
