Dario A. Cortes, PhD, President of Berkeley College, was honored at the 20th Annual Scholarship Gala of the Hispanic Business Council Scholarship Foundation of New Jersey (HBCSF) for his efforts in advancing the educational and personal aspirations of Hispanic students and youth across New Jersey.
“I commend the efforts of the Hispanic Business Council and so many others who support the education of our young people who one day will be our leaders,” said Dr. Cortes when he spoke at the gala. “Efforts to support furthering the education of Latinos through initiatives such as the ‘Es el Momento’ partnership between the Univision and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, serve not only the Hispanic population, but all of America. And each of us must do our part. At Berkeley College, we promote lifelong learning and helping all generations of Latinos better understand the value of higher education.”
Dr. Cortes serves on the Latino Business Council for Univision, as well as on the Council of Presidential Advisors for One to World, an organization that brings together people around the world to promote cross-cultural understanding and break down prejudice. He noted that the Berkeley College website has key pages translated into Spanish, as well as a Financial Literacy program accessible in several languages.
Dr. Cortes urged the scholarship recipients attending the gala to further their studies, noting that many in former years have gone on to complete their graduate studies.
