The nominations are in for the 2014 Latin Grammy Awards are now known. The Latin Recording Academy announced the potential winners in the 15th edition of these awards. The MGM Grand Garden Arena will be the site, but the results will not stay in Vegas.
This is how certain Latin artists exist. They are often heard but not always seen. Not anymore. According to the President/CEO of the Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa Jr.,the nominations have increased in number and variety.
“In this, our 15th anniversary year, we received more than 10,000 entries and the nominations continue to reflect a dynamic and vibrant worldwide Latin music community of artists, producers, engineers, songwriters and everyone involved in the recording process.”
Leading the way in nominations this year with eleven is Eduardo Cabra of Calle 13, while the band has nine. Andres Castro has eight and Tom Coyne, a master engineer has seven.
The traditional big gunners are still factors with last year’s big winner, Carlos Vives, with six, among them, Song of the year. Enrique Iglesias “Bailando” in which he is partnered with Descemer Bueno, will compete for top song and five more himself.
Gabriel Abaroa Jr. shares the general outlook that the music is well represented this year. As an award show that shares power with industry people, it is good to see the expansion.
“The roster of multitalented nominees, it is reassuring that this peer-recognized award is truly focused on acknowledging the quality of material and excellence in recorded music and reflects the evolution
of not only our awards process but the growth of the organization in recognizing the best and most current representation of music.”
On November 20th, Univision will broadcast the show from 8-11pm. The finale award, Album of the Year will be strongly contested by ten artists including but not limited to Marc Anthony’s 3.0, Ruben Blades, Fonseca, Camila, and Calle 13’s Multiviral. A potpourri of entertainment that should be well worth watching.
