The last time a Latino Wrestling Organization made an impact was AAA with Konnan leading the way in the 90’s and 2000’s. But they never really left. The group that provided a third of the strength for the former WCW and contributed mightily to its popularity through Monday Nitro, has returned in a new form.
Led by Mark Burnett of One Three Media, the brainchild of Survivor, The Voice, Celebrity Apprentice, and Shark Tank, who distribute this brand internationally with a different angle on wrestling presentation. Added is the legend Konnan, the face of Lucha Libre AAA which brings their talent and current champ, Prince Puma. There are also veterans from TNA, WCW, and WWE like the former John Morrison of WWE, now rechristened Johnny Mundo who will be the main “American” rival to the champ.
The Network carrying the promotion shows is El Rey Network on Wednesday’s at 8pm. Dario Cueto (Luis Fernandez) as the owner and promoter is the man who moves the pieces while Vampiro and Matt Striker bring their wrestling stars to the mike. Melissa Santos serves as eye candy to the ring announcer position.
The promotion, which links its wrestling to the ancient warrior tradition of Central America and renews the tradition of the mask, which losing possession of is symbolic of losing your head brings an interesting touch to those weary of WWE.
