WEBSTER HALL New York City–On Thursday night I was blown away by this amazing new artist Cris Cab (Island Records) as he was as he performing tracks from his upcoming debut album WHERE I BELONG in a room filled with elated screaming fans who couldn’t get enough (I couldn’t either).
Cris Cab is a soulful 21 year old Miami native of Cuban descent with unique Reggae pop/rock sound unlike I’ve ever heard from someone of his generation before. Cris is a mix of Bob Marley & John Meyer meets latin rock band Maná with heartthrob looks of a Pop-Star!
I learned that Cris Cab is a natural-born singer who began honing his signature pop-reggae-soul sound at age 10. He picked up the guitar at 11, and began writing and recording his own songs on a 4-track machine he acquired at age 14. Digging through old records, he discovered the Police, the Beatles, and the Rolling Stones. Spending summers with his parents in the Bahamas, he also came under the influence of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Jimmy Cliff, Buju Banton, and Gregory Isaacs, as well as R&B greats Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder (to name a few).
Cris and his band will join Pharrell on the road this fall for the European leg of the Dear G I R L world tour. On August 14, Cris will perform at Live 101.5’s Back to School Bash at Comerica Theatre in Phoenix, AZ alongside Trey Songz, Magic!, Jake Miller and more.
The album WHERE I BELONG , which showcases Cris’ signature mix of pop/rock/reggae/soul, is available now for pre-order on iTunes with a full release on September 2nd.
The pre-order currently includes an instant grat download of Cris’ global hit “Liar Liar” (co-written & produced by Pharrell) and additional tracks will become available in the upcoming weeks. From the island rhythm of “The Sun Is Gonna Rise Again” and the acoustic folk inflections of “Fables,” to the hip-hop hook on “Ticket” and the heartfelt “Goodbye,”
WHERE I BELONG marks the arrival of a truly unique voice and sound we’ve all been craving. Cris Cab is the one to look out for!
