Apparently, Bronx residents are furious with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for not showing up to yesterday’s Columbus Day parade in their neighborhood and some of the citizens believe the mayor was hiding from his top aid scandal.
“He’s Italian when he feels like it!” said parade-goer Joe Carfora to the NY Post. “This is the second largest Columbus parade in the city!”
The mayor’s spokesman said Mayor de Blasio was taking a “down day” for “family time” reports NY Post. But others believe the mayor was ducking from answering questions about his wife’s Chief of Staff Rachel Noerdlinger, whose live-in boyfriend is a convicted murderer and continues to have run-ins with the law.
For the last two-years Mayor de Blasio marched at the Bronx’s Columbus Day parade in Morris Park, which has one of the highest number of Italian-Americans residence in the city, but had lost to GOP Joe Lhota in the mayoral race by more than 40 percent in that neighborhood.
“Show your face,” said Maryann Bambi to the Post. “Try and make peace! I mean, what are we, chopped liver here?” said the 70-year-old resident.
But don’t expect Mayor de Blasio to miss another Columbus Day parade in New York City this weekend. Today he is expected, like many, to show his face at the Columbus Day parade on 5th Avenue possibly waving the Italian flag and kissing babies like a brave politician.
