Ricky Martin has taken to his Twitter to announce his endorsement of democratic candidate Hillary Clinton to become our next President of the United States of America.
“Proud to announce my support for @HillaryClinton, a Latina at heart. Text RICKY to 47246 to become a part of this historic campaign,” Martin tweeted to his followers.
According to news sources, Martin’s request for fans to text his name to the number is his contribution to aid the Clinton campaign get the Latino vote through a new method via SMS texting program—which already allegedly has thousands of Latinos signed up—and will hopefully get more Latinos to politically take part in the upcoming elections.
Martin’s twitter endorsement coincides with an event Clinton’s campaign had organized in Florida on December 2 which was solely aimed at getting support from the Puerto Rican community of the sunshine state.
“Our community has been continuously attacked by Donald Trump and other Republican presidential candidates,” Martin added, the singer went on to add why he has chosen to endorse Clinton, “A few months ago I raised my voice against Trump’s hateful rhetoric and standing with me was Hillary Clinton. Time after time, Hillary has shown her commitment to the Latino community and that is why I’m proud to support her and to stand with her because ella está con nosotros y nuestras familias (she is with us and our families).”
Not the only Puerto Rican to show his support for Clinton, singer Marc Anthony also showed his support by having the candidate accompany him on stage during one of his sold out concerts at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on October 2nd.
“This is like family,” Anthony said to his audience of fans before bringing Clinton up on stage, “I want to recognize someone who came to the concert tonight. Please, with all the respect in the world, let’s hear it for Hillary Clinton.”
While most Republican candidates have alienated the Latino community, Clinton has used her campaign to show her support and one way she has shown her support is by recently announcing a $275 billion infrastructure plan that will benefit the Latino community.
