Eva Jacqueline Longoria is a television and film actress. She has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards and was nominated for a Golden Globe Award.Longoria is known for her roles as Isabella Braña on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless, and as Gabrielle Solis on the ABC television series Desperate Housewives.

What you didn’t know

  • She is of Mexican descent. She won the title of Miss Corpus Christi, USA in 1998.
  • Eva Longoria – “Latinos in America Must Unite”

What do Mexicans, Puerto Ricans, Dominicans, Ecuadorians, Colombians, and Peruvians all have in common?

The answer is simple: they are all Latino. The only thing that truly makes anyone from the above group different from each other is the cultural background associated to each group. For those who aren’t Latino may not think we are different and few Latinos as being a united group.

However, that idea is not exactly true.

While there is a strong sense of Latino pride for many Latinos, when it comes to being or feeling a sense of unity to others who are not of the same national background it seems non-existent. It is this sense of division among Latinos which has some Latino stars are suggesting that if we remove, Latinos could only benefit and progress forward as a united people.

Since becoming a superstar in her own right, Eva Longoria has used her fame earned by her stint as a Housewife on ABC’s Desperate Housewives into becoming a philanthropist to aid the Latino community within the country. And one way that Longoria has aided Latinos is through her very own foundation.

Since its establishment back in 2010, the intention of the Eva Longoria Foundation is to encourage and help Latinas across the country succeed through either educational and/or entrepreneurial pursuits. According to Longoria, the foundations mostly focuses on Latinas because she sees the growing demographic of Latinos in this country and believes that women in the community need more of a push because they “make the world go round.”

I grew up with a family of strong, accomplished, and educated women. I believe, as they say, that you can’t be what you don’t see, and since I saw a lot of smart women in my life, education being at the center, I just mimicked that behavior. There was never a question that I’d go to college. In fact, I was the last person in my family to get a master’s degree, so that tells you I’m actually the underachiever!

Although her foundation may be devoted to aiding the growth of Latinas, Longoria strongly feels that both women and men could both benefit in progressing upward if only we as a community come together to help one another out.

We have to support and lift each other up. Latinos have not historically been a culture that unites easily. We’re very factioned—you have your Mexican Americans, your Puerto Ricans, your Cuban Americans, your Central Americans—and sometimes we focus on the differences more than the commonalities.

And Longoria is not alone in this ideology. At the recent PaleyFest held this weekend, Gina Rodriguez the star of Jane The Virgin took part of a panel that discussed Latinos on Television and the actress gave advice to other Latino actors.

We need to unite,” said Rodriguez, suggesting one way to do so is by Latino actors opting to portray characters of different Latino nationalities beside their own to show this unity. “They see us as one community—we need to be one community. Let’s do that, use our power as Latinos, whatever culture you identify with and celebrate.

Being of Latino origin I have experienced, and seen, that there are fractions that exist within the Latino community. There are some Latinos, mostly Latinos of South America, who are being stereotyped or persecuted for being immigrants due to the country’s heated debate regarding how immigration—for some—harms the country or—for others—betters it. With this issue and others that are race-related and plagues the Latino community, the unifying of Latinos could aid in eliminating this issue.

Eva Longoria Directing “Jane the Virgin”

The demise of “Telenovela” was not the end of the road for Eva Longoria. It was just the beginning of a new chapter.

While she will no longer be starring and executive producing the NBC show, she managed to bounce back by getting a gig to direct the third episode of the new season of “Jane the Virgin,” which is coming back this fall.

For season three Longoria will be helming “Chapter Forty-Seven.”

Longoria was so excited that she tweeted the news on her twitter account.

This is not her first foray into directing. She previously helmed the first episode of “Devious Maids‘”  (another show she executive produces) second season in 2014.

Longoria’s episode will debut on Oct. 31 on the CW on Monday at 9 p.m.

Eva Longoria to Wed this weekend! Maybe.

Eva Longoria might be a married woman come next week.

According to sources, the former Desperate Housewives and Telenovela star will be reportedly tying the knot with her fiancé Jose Antonio Baston in Mexico this upcoming weekend

After dating for nearly three years, Longoria,41, and Baston,47, announced their engagement back in December after being on a romantic getaway vacation to Dubai.

It was such a surprise,” the actress told the Today show earlier this year. Longoria also added that the wedding will be a “big fat Mexican wedding.”

Sources are saying that the wedding will be held at Jane the Virgin actor Jaime Camil’s home which is located in Acapulco, Mexico. The source also stated that guests may include the likes of David and Victoria Beckham, Penelope Cruz, Ricky Martin, Mario Lopez, as well as Longoria’s Telenovela co-star Amaury Nolasco.

Reps for Longoria refused to give a comment regarding the possible nuptials. So, whatever the case may be—congratulations to the star!

    Latinas Celebrate International Women’s Day

    By Florentina Narchet

This past Tuesday March 8th was International Women’s Day.  Throughout history, women have been able to overcome many barriers imposed by society and unwrap in any given task…and that forward-thinking mindset is evident today, in the many innovative leaders that are within our communities.

Powerful Latinas celebrities gathered together to once again remark women’s accomplishments on National Women’s day and encourage and motivate other women.

Eva Longoria decided to celebrate this special day with a special person, her mother. Longoria uploaded a video to admire and honor her mother. In the 9-second video where her mother appears, Longoria described her mother as a strong and amazing woman.

La Diva Del Bronx, single mother of twins; Max and Emme, Jennifer Lopez is another Latina woman who joined to celebrate and empower the ladies on Women’s Day.  Lopez who was announced as the Global Advocate for Girls and Women by United Nations Foundation, celebrated the day by spreading the word of global gender inequality that still exist.

Jenny from the block who struggled as a woman but never gave up, encourages others to join and end the great disparity between women and men. She said, “I ask you to stand up for all girls and women this International Women’s Day. By 2030, we can make gender equality a reality.

With her Dominican and Puerto Rican roots, Hollywood actress, director, and mother of twin boys: Cy Aridio and Bowie Ezio, Zoe Saldaña also joined to celebrate International Women’s Day. On her Facebook, she posted a photo of three generations of women in her family, her sisters, mother and grandmother. She quotes, “Here’s to strong women, may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them”.

Sofia Vergara decided to celebrate the day by pointing out an article that describes the impact the non-profit organization, Give to Colombia is making. This organization works with the Colombian community and simultaneously helping one another to empower women; overcome stereotypes and help women achieve their dreams.

Eva Longoria launches The Brown Ribbons Campaign for Latino Diversity in Hollywood!

Eva Longoria is taking action against the lack of Latino recognition and awareness with both this year’s Oscars and Hollywood as well by launching a social campaign.

Yesterday, the Desperate Housewives star proved once again how much she is an activist for Latinos by launching The Brown Ribbon Campaign along with other prominent Latinos within the entertainment industry.

I can’t wait for the day when ‘diversity’ isn’t just the hot topic of the moment, but a true reality that is reflected on screen,” said Longoria, discussing what motivated her to launch the campaign. The actress went on to add that “the change is coming and I am happy to be a part of it.”

The motivation for the campaign was sparked back in January when the nominations for the 88th Academy Awards were revealed and showed—once again—a lack of recognition to both Latinos and Black actors.

Despite a year of amazing and excellent performances from the likes of Benicio Del Toro (Sicario), Oscar Isaac (Ex Machina), Kiki Rodriguez and Mya Taylor (Tangerine) the only recognition earned was for either minor nominations that aren’t true shown live on television; and because of this Longoria and others are taking a stand against this lack of acknowledgement.

At the award ceremony itself, the Brown Ribbon campaign Academy Award askes that attendees wear a brown ribbon to bring awareness to the lack of Latino representation. In-addition to the award show, the campaign asks that fans can show support by campaigning via social media using the following hashtags #HollywoodBrownout and #BrownRibbonCampaign.

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) has responded to the campaign by stating they will also promote and feature brown ribbons at its annual Impact Awards Gala expected to be held on February 26, 2016.

The entertainment industry has much work to be done when it comes to accurately reflecting our diverse society,” said Thomas A. Saenz, president and general counsel of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF), “One area that has received far too little attention is the near-total exclusion of the nation’s largest minority group, Latinos; the brown-ribbon campaign brings attention to an inexplicably neglected issue in Hollywood.”

    Latinas Takeover NBC

This year there will be not one, not two, but three shows on NBC starring Latinas. Two of the shows, Superstore and Telenovela, had previewed three episodes last fall (which is online) and will be airing new episodes back-to-back tonight at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. eastern time. The third show, Shades of Blue, will debut Thursday, Jan. 7th at 10 p.m.

Superstore stars the much-coveted America Ferrera, of Ugly Betty fame, as the buy-the-books floor supervisor, Amy, at the fictional Cloud 9 big box store. Ferrera is also a co-producer on the show.

I am a producer on Superstore, and that was really important to me. I’ve been just an actor on television and have really wanted to be a part of the conversations that shape the show and define where the show is going overall…”

    Ferrera explained.

One aspect of the show that Ferrera and the showrunners are excited to explore are the politics of running a megastore, which somewhat resembles chain retailer Walmart, which has workers that need public assistance. According to a report by the U.S. Committee on Education and the Workforce, the low-wage earning Walmart employees cost the American public $6.2 billion in welfare programs.

Screen Shot 2016-01-04 at 6.34.10 PM

The show that follows Superstore tonight is Telenovela. It stars Eva Longoria, the Desperate Housewife alum, as she stars in…you guessed it, a telenovela called Las Leyes de Pasión.

There’s one thing, though, her character Ana Sofia Calderon doesn’t know Spanish and has to deal with the hijinks that come with being on a soap opera. Similar to Ferrera, Longoria will be executive producing Telenovela.

The other thing is, I knew if I was going back to comedy, I wanted to move the ball forward. You know, cable has really put pressure on dramas, but that pressure doesn’t translate to comedies,

    says Longoria.

Telenovela will also include Jencarlos Canela as her ex-husband and love interest on Pasión. Diana-Maria Riva will play the show’s clothing designer and Calderon’s BFF. Amaury Nolasco of Prison Break will play the telenovela’s villain.

Like Longoria, Jennifer Lopez will be executive producing her new show, Shades of Blue. The drama will have Lopez playing a crooked cop and single mother, Harlee Santos, who becomes an FBI informant.

Shades will depict her struggle for the family she has with her daughter and the reputation she built with her crew in her police family with whom she takes shortcuts to get the job done while making some dirty money on the side.

Will she betray her comrades to the FBI, or become a triple agent and try to warn her boys in blue? Your just going to have to tune in and see.

    Eva Longoria is Engaged!

Eva Longoria is getting married once again!

Taking to her Instagram account on Sunday, the Desperate Housewives and Telenovela made the announcement that she and her boyfriend of two years Jose Antonio Baston will soon tie the knot.

Ummmm so this happened…#Engaged #Dubai #Happiness,” Longoria, 40, captioned a photo she posted of she and Baston, 46, kissing while she flaunted her new diamond ring.

The couple are currently in Dubai on holiday and taking part in the Global Gift Foundation gala. The couple made their first public appearance back in 2013 after keeping their new romance a secret, and now the two are set to become Mr. & Mrs Longoria-Baston.

Rumors of Longoria’s engagement to the president of Televisa, one of the largest media companies in Latin America, have been circling around the two since this summer after paparazzi photos snapped a photo of the actress wearing a diamond ring upon her left hand.

This is a ring, I’ve had this ring forever,” Longoria said, appearing on the Australian breakfast show Kyle and Jackie O to discredit the rumors she was engaged back in the summer. “This is just a Martin Catz band that I move (on) my hands depending on my swelling. I move fingers, I do.”

The recent proposal must have quite the surprise for Longoria considering that last year she ruled out walking down the aisle again for the 3rd time.

Marriage and kids are not on the horizon,” Longoria said, while giving an interview.

The actress was previously married to NBA player Tony Park for four years and prior to that to actor Tyler Christopher for two years.

Eva Longoria to produce a new political drama series based on Latino Politicians!

Eva Longoria’s list as both a Producer and a Political Enthusiast is continuing to grow as the Latina star will soon be producing a political drama based on the lives of well-known Latino politicians.

Produced through her UnbeliEVAble Entertainment production company, along with Conde Nast Entertainment, Longoria will be producing an untitled political drama loosely based on the lives of Democratic twin politicians former-San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, who is now the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and United States Congressman Joaquin Castro which will soon air on ABC network.

According to sources, the show was inspired by a 2013 Vogue article entitled Pair of Aces which was a profile piece on the Castro twins rise in the political world. The show is being described as to centering around a political family who find themselves taking up different political agendas.

Working along with Revenge Producer Nikki Toscano, the show will be a reunion for Longoria and Toscano since the pair last worked together on the hit ABC series Desperate Housewives which launched Longoria’s career.

There are no details when the show will go into production, but the development has been ongoing since last year when Longoria tried to pitch the show to another network, with a different writer, that went nowhere.

The untitled drama will join Devious Maids as the second show produced by Longoria’s UnbeliEVAble Entertainment company.

However, until this political drama comes out you can catch Longoria on the NBC comedy Telenovela, which is also produced by her company, that’s scheduled to air on December 7.

Romeo Santos, Jennifer Lopez & more Latinos star in HBO’s “The Latin Explosion: A New America!”

Jennifer Lopez, Eva Longoria, Ricky Martin, Sofia Vergara, George Lopez are just a few of the Latino superstars who will appear in a new HBO documentary aimed specifically at spotlighting just how Latinos impact the United States of America.

In a recently released trailer, “The Latin Explosion: A New America,” is a documentary that brings together some of the hottest and well-known Latino celebrities in music, television, and film within the country and asks them: what it means to be a Latino in the U.S.? And the obstacles they have had to overcome.

Within the trailer, singer Gloria Estefan describes how at the start of her career she was advised that she should change her name because it would be too complicated to pronounce.

In candid interviews, stars like Cheech Marin, Rita Moreno, Shakira, Romeo Santos, and many more with the stars above take part in this project and also share or discuss their own personal experience within the entertainment industry in the U.S.

The documentary also will depict major historical events within the industry that had a large effect on impacting the Latino community today.

The U.S. is the 2nd largest Spanish-speaking country in the world,” said Ricky Martin, in the trailer for the movie, before adding, “Boom!” to demonstrate how impressive that idea is considering that there are numerous other Spanish-speaking countries in this world.

Tommy Mottola, a well-known Music Producer who has a hand in launching some of the music industry’s most popular stars like Marc Anthony, Mariah Carey, as well as Lopez, Martin, and Shakira served as the documentary’s producer.

In an interview about the documentary, Mottola said that a documentary has “assembled the largest array of Latino superstars ever in a film telling a powerful story of their history and immigration, politics, and rise from a small minority population to the most critical demographic in the United States.”

The documentary couldn’t be coming out at a more important time. With certain political candidates shining a negative light on the Latino community, the film can be a powerful tool in showing other groups outside of Latinos just how important and impactful the community is.

Latinos spend $1.3 trillion a year, making them one of the most powerful groups of consumers today,” Mottola added, noting that Latinos are known as one of the biggest consumer demographics within the United States.

In the trailer it is noted within a caption that “In 1950 1 in 50 Americans were Latino,” but “By 2050, it will be 1in 3,” which is a statistical prediction that has yet to be discredited, but continues to gain backing.

And being a community believed to growing, it is quite possible when Mottola explained that Latinos will also have a huge impact on the upcoming 2016 presidential election once again. Latinos presented a strong presence in the 2012 election, and not every Latino voted then.

Latinos may not just only impact the 2016 elections, but could be more of a presence down the road in politics.

There is no doubt in my mind that by 2025 we will have a Latino president,” Mottola said, and he may just be right.

The Latin Explosion: A New America, narrated by John Leguizamo will air Nov. 16 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO and HBO Latino.
