“Una Noche” an Independent film about three Cuban teens trying to escape the communist island nation for a better life in the U.S. Well movie turned reality when 2 of the 3 stars of the film disappeared. Anailin de la Rua de la Torre and Javier Nunez Florian, the 20-year-old Cuban-born actors where flown from Cuba to the United States on Wednesday expected to in be New York at The Tribeca Film Festival for the premiere of their movie titled “Una Noche.” They flew from Cuba to Miami and from there they where supposed board the flight to New York but was reported missing as soon their plane touched down in Miami. According to the third star Dariel Arrechada, he reported that he is alone in New York. The Cuban actor also told the Huffington Post that he and his colleagues are unable to reach the missing actors and did not know about their current whereabouts. But Arrechada said that he will be returning back to Cuba after the festival wraps up due to expiration on his visa. “Well, at the very least, I will go back to Cuba, I have my family there, my friends, my girlfriend,” he said. “Here, I don’t know anyone. Here, I don’t know the way of life. I also don’t know English very well,” he said in Spanish. This is the first time any of the Cuban born actors have been to the U.S., tweeted the Director of the film, Lucy Mulloy. Her tweet read “First time out of Cuba to the US!” Mulloy tells the Huffington Post that she is disappointed and surprised by the actions of the actors but also understands it. She says “I really was thinking that they were going to come here and enjoy the festival, and I thought they would love to participate in it, they made a decision, I guess.” She’s also concerned about the well-being of the actors. She says “I just hope that they’re safe and well.” But the movie stars’ choice to flee Cuba is not the first in the Island’s History, Cuba’s 1993 Olympic Baseball team were sent abroad to represent the country at the Central American Games in Puerto Rico. 40 athletes from the cuban delegation never made it back. In 2008, the number of Cuban’s trying to escape to the U.S. reported to be at it’s highest in more then a decade. In 2007, nearly 8,000 Cubans made it and more than 3,000 where intercepted at sea reported by The Economist.
