Antonio Banderas will soon be starring and producing an upcoming drama series on Starz called Havana Quartet.
Based on detective book series written by Cuban novelist Leonardo Padura, the series will follow Detective Mario Conde who is a hard-drinking and romantic detective who once aspired to be a writer but choose a career within the police force.
The āHavana Quartetā is based on four books entitled Havana Blue, Havana Gold, Havana Red, and Havana Blue/
Banderas will be portraying Conde in an hour-long TV adaptation of the series. The series is to be written by fellow executive producer and Cuban playwright Eduardo Machado.
The latest role for Banders is a nod of sorts since the superstar from Spain got his big American break when starring in the 1992 French-American drama The Mambo King, which was an adaptation of Oscar Hijuelos‘s 1989 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love.
The new series was announced by Starz CEO Chris Albrecht who stated the series would be set in the 1990s during a time in-which the ācommunist dreams was starting to fray around the edges but there still was a lot of charm,ā while at the Television Critics Association‘s summer press tour.
The project will be filmed primarily in Cuba.
